Palekastro is located at the easternmost tip of Crete, at a distance of 19 km from Sitia and 7 km. from the famous Vai palm forest. It is the largest of the villages in the province of Sitia with about 1300 inhabitants. Its advantageous geographical position places it at the center of a wider area with several natural, historical and archaeological interests.

The beaches of Palekastro stretch to a length of 5-6 km and are bordered to the north, by Cape Tenta and to the south, by Cape Plaka. The special features of this coastal area are the islet of Grandes, which with its long presence blocks the entrance of the bay.

But, in the end, the impressions are stolen by the one-piece solid reddish rock ‘Kastri’, which divides in two the natural continuity of the coast. Thus, south of it we meet the beach Hiona, while in the north the beach Kouremenos .
